What is Christian counselling?

At Cascade, we define Christian counselling as counselling that is rooted in evidence-based therapeutic approaches that include the Christian faith through the therapist’s dedication as a Christian, the use of prayer for clients inside or outside the therapy room, and any client directed use of scripture and faith based discussion.  It is important to use the truth of God in counselling, as it is received and understood from God’s work and God’s Word.  The truth of God’s work (our evidence from the world) is found in evidence-based therapeutic approaches and the truth of God’s Word is found in the Bible and the work of the Holy Spirit, through Jesus Christ.  The power of Christ is present to heal and produce lasting change.

Our Name ‘Cascade Christian Counselling’

Our Name and Logo have symbolic meaning for the process of change in counselling.  The name Cascade evokes a picture of moving water cascading along a brook or river.  Healing change requires movement and progression.  The three rings in the logo have a wave depicting this movement and they symbolize the importance of the Trinity:  Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit.  Water is also symbolic of the Holy Spirit who guides us in our endeavours to walk through the healing process.  The green and blue colours are symbolic of the truth of God’s work in the world (green for the earth), and the truth of God’s Word from the Holy Spirit (symbolized by the colour blue).

Christian counselling is for everyone:

It is important to know that Christian counselling at Cascade means that the counsellors are Christians and will work from a Christian worldview and utilize their own faith to lead their efforts in the counselling process.  We welcome individuals of all faiths or individuals that do not associate themselves with a faith.  We believe in a client-centered approach, which means that your counsellor will respect your perspective and that you will lead in the process of including (or not including) aspects of your faith.  Because we believe that the truth of God’s work provides extremely valuable and useful information to help individuals, all our counsellors have appropriate education and experience.  In the therapist section of the website you will find specific credentials and experience for each counsellor and also their therapeutic approach.
