Hello my name is Dick Farenhorst.  I have a Ph.D. and have been a Clinical Counsellor (and supervisor) for over 35 years.  I have a heart for helping all people (Christians and non-Christians) who have emotional or relationship problems and pain.  It bothered me that many people that live in small towns in BC, where Christian counselling isn’t available, were unable to get the help they needed.  In an effort to help them, we at Cascade are offering a new telephone counselling service.  I have found it to be surprisingly very helpful for many situations and would love to help you if I can.  Please read on to see if your situation would be appropriate for this type of counselling.

BENEFITS OF TELEPHONE COUNSELLING

  • People who have difficulty getting to counselling because they have to travel long distances, i.e. live in rural areas.
  • Shut-ins or those with disabilities can now obtain counselling without leaving their home.
  • People who feel much more comfortable talking on the phone versus being in an office.
  • People who have work schedules that force them out of town or schedules that make it difficult to get to an office can now get counselling help.
  • Save on travel time and commuting costs.
  • People who feel more comfortable speaking to a counsellor in the privacy of their own home or office.

FREE CONSULT

  • You can get a free initial 15 minute consult to discuss your issue and see if telephone counselling would be appropriate for you.  Contact us at 1-877-585-1411.

 HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • You would download the initial forms, print them, sign them, and fax them back to us.
  • You would phone 1-877-585-1411 to schedule a session time. (Cell phones are not recommended for counselling sessions due to lack of privacy and security).
  • You would pay 24 hours before your first session by credit card (click for fee scale and payment form).

SITUATIONS NOT SUITABLE FOR TELEPHONE COUNSELLING  “Limitations of Service”

  • If you are suicidal or at risk of hurting yourself or others.
  • Children or adolescents
  • Substance abuse/addiction issues
  • Domestic violence or abuse
  • Serious psychiatric illnesses such as schizophrenia
  • Due to insurance/liability issues, we can only accept clients who are in the province of British Columbia, Canada.

 NATURE OF THERAPY

  • I’m generally short term oriented and try to help folks get to where they want to be as quickly as possible.  Generally the first session we try to get as much information as we can.  The more I get to know you and your situation, the more I feel I can be of some help.
  • Next we’ll set some goals and then try to give you something already in your first session that can be of help to you in the coming week.

We as a Christian counselling service attempt to integrate the best of the social science research and insights with Christian and Biblical perspectives.  However, we welcome all people regardless of religion or belief.  For those Christian clients, we are very happy to incorporate prayer into the sessions if you would like this.
